Garage Extension in Karlsruhe

 - Sabine Drey

A postwar neighbourhood in the Rintheim district of Karlsruhe now boasts an example of urban redensification of the circular type. The architect Falk Schneeman set twelve housing units on top of three existing garage volumes. The results are 536 m² of new residential area and no further sealed surfaces. Should higher degrees of density be required in the future, the three timber roof extensions, nearly identical in terms of construction, can be simply moved to another site.
