Innovation Factory in Heilbronn

 - Frank Kaltenbach

The rectangular volume of the startup centre measures 30.5 m on its sides and is nearly 19 m tall. It constitutes a new urban centre of gravity in the western harbour area of Heilbronn, one of Germany’s largest inland ports. The load bearing structure with its glued laminated timber beams and white glazed surfaces defines the character of the interiors. It also provides the exterior with a distinctive appearance. Here, architecture is dramatised as the futureproof and sustainable backdrop for startup firms. The V-shaped columns feature cross sections measuring 300 × 280 mm and are arranged along the circumferential maintenance walkway of the double skin facade. It consists of triple glazed elements and an impact resistant layer of glass.
