Maternity Waiting Homes in Kasungu

In Malawi in south-east Africa people spend most of their time outdoors. It is therefore most important that buildings should offer sufficient protection against sun and heavy rainfall. The Maternity Waiting Village, a village-type complex where pregnant women can stay while awaiting the birth of their child, also provides basic medical care services. The mortality rate among mothers and newborn children in rural Malawi is high, as pregnant women often have to travel long distances to reach the nearest medical facility, in the process endangering their own life and that of their child.
