Medical-Care Centre in Kuwait City

A medical centre in the desert climate of Kuwait calls for a careful daylight concept. The present low-height complex occupies the entire site and contains courtyards of various shapes set mainly next to the external facade. These allow daylight to penetrate into the depths of all 12 departments. Perforated aluminium screens close the courtyards on the outside, protecting the centre from direct insolation. The metal sheeting, with a triangular module, was assembled in three different positions in the steel structure and creates an attractive interplay of light and shade. Each facade has its own distinct character. Internally, too, the colour concept, using ceramic mosaics, affords a good sense of orientation.
