Last summer Prague’s first Papelote stationery shop opened; this concept store specialises in artistic, handmade paper. The product line consists of handcrafted goods, mostly of recycled materials. The owner’s dedication to craftsmanship is also reflected in the shop design. The ceiling of the sales space is a vault of suspended cardboard – a bespoke product made of small pieces of the store’s own packing paper. For the walls the architects decided to reveal the original, colourful layers of scraped rendering. The trowelled wall surfaces, finished with a clear protective coating, offer a compelling contrast to the polished oak parquet. The shelves, like the portable tables, are made of plywood.
