Footbridge in Rotterdam

This bridge enabled an office to expand laterally into a neighbouring building at upper floor level. The bridge spans a distance of 3.20 metres. Its all-glass construction is boldly contrasted with the forms of the adjoining buildings. The float glass sheets of the floor are supported by two glass joists, the curved shape of which follows the bending moment line. The points of transmission of wind loads are designed differently from the points of suspension at the top. The glass plates are joined together and anchored to the buildings with standard glass fixing pieces and special laser-cut stainless steel plates.
